The Bobro engineering Galil mount is designed to work with original pattern rifle as pictured.

Mounting optics was a secondary consideration when the rifle was originally designed, and there were numerous compromises to accomplish this task. Due to the location of the cocking handle, side mounted optics would be offset to a large degree, complicating accurate fire past just a few hundred yards. Many commercially available rifles lacked the provision on the receiver, so that wasn’t an option even if you wanted to go this route. Gas tube mounted optics have other issues, from location to excessive heat going into the optic itself.

Since the Galil functions with acceptable results by utilizing the iron sights, we designed a mount that is securely mounted to the rear sight housing block. The mount is secured in such a manner that it allows co-witness with the iron sights, so even with an optic failure it permits aimed fire. The mount has a centrally located rib that stops a sling from getting caught underneath the mount.

To attach, utilize the flip-up night sight provision on the rear sight block. Most Galils already have the sight itself removed, but if one is present, it must be taken off. An RDS is far superior to the existing night sight. Drop the mount into the sight block and secure the left/right fasteners. Once those are secured, the elevation can be adjusted using the two set screws. Typically, running the mount parallel to the top cover is a great place to start. Once everything is zeroed, we recommend that low strength thread locker is used to ensure that it doesn’t shoot loose.

NOTE- Due to the width of the RMR footprint, the sight is offset to the left by 0.070” so that the cocking handle misses the RDS when reciprocating. In our extensive testing, this slight offset had no impact on zeroing or hitting targets at extended ranges.

SHOOTING WITH THE RDS- The Galil rifle has a 3 position rear sight. There is a middle detent that configures the aperture onto a “V”. This is intentional, and would be used when shooting with night sight blade in the upright position. We recommend that you utilize the RDS with the rear sight aperture configured as such. If the RDS fails for any reason, you merely flip the rear sight into an “L” position and utilize the irons in a conventional manner.
